For the first half of the lunch break our pupils are introduced to their feeding routine, independence and self help skills are encouraged whilst our Play Assistants are always on hand to provide help and support.
Carole, our cook, ably assisted by Ellen, ensures that all pupil meals are home made and full of delicious vitamins and minerals. There is always a vegetarian option and she cleverly accommodates all the pupils with special diets. Those pupils who need to be tube fed are supported by a trained member of staff.
The second half of the lunch break is based on play. Children are helped by our Play Assistants to access the different activities that are prepared each day. Pupils may choose what activity they would like to participate in, including outdoor play.
The uniqueness of our lunchtime experience has been brought about by our team of Play Assistants, replacing the old style dinner lady. This lovely bunch are trained in all areas involved with the children, including manual handling, gastro feeding, physiotherapy and communication. This ensures that they are all skilled in helping pupils access play activities making the lunchtime experience inclusive for all.
